The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of topical fluoride varnish and fluoride-releasing adhesive on the shear bond strength (SBS) of orthodontic brackets.
A total of 60 extracted premolars were bonded to 0.022, stainless steel brackets and equally divided into three groups ( = 20) based on the adhesive used-Group I- Transbond XT Plus color change (3M Unitek), Group II- Transbond XT followed by application of fluoride varnish, and Group III- Transbond XT (3M Unitek) adhesive and their bond strengths were compared. Brackets were debonded with a universal testing machine. The modified adhesive remnant index (ARI) was also recorded. Data were analyzed by using an analysis of variance, and a test was performed for multiple comparisons among the groups.
There were no significant differences between the SBSs ( = 0.91) between the groups. Also, no significant difference was found in the modified ARI ( = 0.093).
The orthodontic adhesives used in our study, with or without the application of topical fluoride varnish, did not have a significant effect on the bond strengths of brackets.
Adhesives evaluated in this study can be successfully used for bonding brackets.

本研究旨在评估局部用氟化物清漆和含氟释放胶粘剂对正畸托槽剪切粘结强度(SBS)的影响。
选取60颗拔除的前磨牙,粘结0.022英寸的不锈钢托槽,并根据所使用的胶粘剂平均分为三组(每组n = 20)——第一组使用Transbond XT Plus变色型(3M Unitek);第二组使用Transbond XT,随后涂抹氟化物清漆;第三组使用Transbond XT(3M Unitek)胶粘剂,比较它们的粘结强度。使用万能试验机使托槽脱粘。同时记录改良的粘结剂残留指数(ARI)。采用方差分析对数据进行分析,并进行组间多重比较的t检验。
各组间的SBS(P = 0.91)无显著差异。改良的ARI(P = 0.093)也未发现显著差异。
本研究中使用的正畸胶粘剂,无论是否涂抹局部用氟化物清漆,对托槽的粘结强度均无显著影响。
本研究评估的胶粘剂可成功用于粘结托槽。
