All temperature-sensitive histidine auxotrophs of Salmonella typhimurium tested are corrected by addition of neutral salts to their growth medium. The correctability seems to result from direct electrolyte effects on mutant protein stability since several of the mutant proteins are also salt correctable in vitro.
