From the observations made on a great number of obstetrical operations partly in the blue-white cattle breed either in the clinic or in practice, the indications for caesarean section and the chances for post operative conception are discussed. Despite technically perfect and careful operation, still some complications, e.g. adhesions, which reduce the subsequent fertility, can hardly be prevented. About 75% of the cows bred again become pregnant and 9.7% of those pregnancies end in abortion. However, the possibilities of delivery and the survival rate for the dam and the fetus after caesarotomy are so high, that the fertility depressing factors are readily accepted. Nevertheless, further efforts should be made to overcome them.
