Abstract
This paper describes systemic issues that are central to the admission of an adolescent family member for inpatient psychiatric evaluation and treatment, and proposes ways in which family therapy on admission can offer opportunities for the growth, development, and autonomy of the adolescent, the family system, and the hospital system.
