An open trial was carried out in general practice to assess the effectiveness and acceptability of flunisolide nasal spray in relieving symptoms of allergic rhinitis. Eighty-eight patients were entered in the study, 82 of whom were hay fever sufferers. The spray was given as 2 insufflations into each nostril, using a metered pump, twice daily over a period of 1 month. This provided a daily dose of 200 microgram flunisolide. Patients' symptoms were assessed on entry and at 2-week intervals. Flunisolide produced statistically significant reductions in all symptoms and resulted in complete or good control in 73 patients.
