Smoking prevention programs for adolescents: the value of social psychological approaches.

Factors relating to smoking onset are enumerated and the literature bearing on the strategies designed to deal with these issues is described. Research arising from social psychological approaches to smoking prevention programs is critically assessed with a view to developing a conceptual model for understanding smoking behavior. The value of social psychological approaches for smoking prevention among adolescents is discussed.
