[Surgical treatment of nodular forms of astrocytoma of the medulla oblongata and pons].

In the recent 3 years the authors removed 15 tumors of the caudal parts of the brain stem by microsurgical techniques. The article analyses the peculiarities of the diagnosis, the topographic variants, and the surgical techniques for removing tumors of the caudal parts of the brain stem. Ln 14 of the 15 patients the tumor was removed radically; the general cerebral symptoms regressed subsequently and the focal symptomatology improved. One patient died after partial removal of a large tumor of the stem which was marked by infiltrative growth.
