In severe traumatic lesions of the fingers with loss of bone in the phalanges it is possible to avoid amputation and restore a useful finger, using skin replacement followed by bone grafting and, where necessary, tendon and nerve grafting. The technique of bone grafting in the phalanges is described. This is the most important step in restoring the length and stability of the digital ray.
