Whenever a young dog (up to ten months of age) is presented showing lameness of one of the hind legs, as well as a swelling in the region of the knee without perceptible crepitation, it is advisable to take X-rays immediately, rather than to wait. These X-rays severe to verify or rule out injury of the epiphysis. Attention is paid to the clinical and radiological features as well as to the pathophysiology and surgical treatment of avulsion of the tuberosity of the tibia in dogs in the present paper.
