During the past decade, a number of developments have occurred in certain fields of biotechnology, which considerably enlarged the therapeutic, preventive and diagnostic potential of human and veterinary medicine. Especially, hybridoma technology and recent developments in recombinant DNA technology, have found several applications, and they will - when used either separately or in combination - result in a considerable extension and refinement of the possibilities of diagnosis in man and animals.
