Success in treatment of acute flexor tendon injury demands careful assessment of the wound and patient, thorough knowledge of the relevant anatomy and physiology of tendons and tendon healing, meticulous and gentle surgical technique, and careful supervision during a controlled postoperative exercise program. With conscientious attention to the principles and techniques outlined, most complications can be minimized and a good clinical outcome can be achieved.
