The femoral bypass.

Long-term results in 30 cases of bypass of the occluded superficial femoral vein by implantation of the greater saphenous vein into the popliteal vein have been disappointing due to degeneration of the saphenous valves within two years. The Palma operation has proven to have long-term good results in 18 of 20 cases performed by more recent techniques, but less favorable results by previous methods. Salient details of surgical management are presented.
