Validation of the nursing diagnosis of urinary retention.

The literature was reviewed in an effort to find or develop a taxonomy for alterations in urinary elimination. A questionnaire was used to validate defining characteristics of one of these diagnosis. Support for the label was found. Examination of additional labels is useful in differentiating types of incontinence.
