Use of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation for a patient with a cardiac pacemaker. A case report.

Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation units used in conjunction with cardiac pacemakers have traditionally been an absolute contraindication for these patients. In this case report, a patient successfully used a TENS unit in conjunction with a temporary cardiac pacemaker. No interference was noted by the ECG readout. This finding indicates that with close monitoring, some patients may be able to wear a TENS unit simultaneously with cardiac pacemakers.
