Abstract

Schizophrenia is associated with a high risk of thoracic infections and pneumonia. The use of atypical antipsychotics clozapine may also increase the risk of pulmonary infection. However, psychotic patients are less likely to report physical symptoms, and these dangerous conditions may go undetected. In this case report, we present 47-year-old woman with schizophrenia who had been using clozapine and did not complain of respiratory symptoms. After admission, she was diagnosed with empyema. Although empyema has a high mortality rate, thanks to the timely admission and proper diagnosis, the patient recovered after 3 weeks of medical and surgical treatment.

精神分裂症与胸部感染和肺炎的高风险相关。使用非典型抗精神病药物氯氮平也可能增加肺部感染的风险。然而,精神病患者报告身体症状的可能性较小,这些危险情况可能未被发现。在本病例报告中,我们介绍了一名47岁的精神分裂症女性患者,她一直在使用氯氮平,且未诉说呼吸道症状。入院后,她被诊断为脓胸。尽管脓胸死亡率很高,但由于及时入院和正确诊断,患者在经过3周的药物和手术治疗后康复。
