Previous studies have explored the role of the gut microbiota in regulating endobiotic homeostasis, but the precise mechanisms remain unclear. In this issue of Cell Host & Microbe, Simpson et al. identified two predominant subtypes of gut microbial β-Glucuronidase (gmGUS) that can reactivate hormones and neurotransmitters to regulate endobiotic homeostasis.
