Verapamil induces glucose intolerance in conscious, nondiabetic rats.

Intravenous verapamil administration in normal rats significantly impaired the rats' ability to respond to a glucose tolerance test, and blocked the glucose-stimulated release of insulin into the blood. The results suggest that verapamil can impair pancreatic endocrine function in vivo.
