Leg ulcerations associated with livedoid vasculitis may undergo a benign or very serious course depending on the presence of underlying disease. The disease has fairly distinctive clinical and histopathologic features, and it should be considered in cases of ulcerations refractory to conventional treatment. Most of these cases may eventually heal after a long course of intermittent eruptions and ulcerations. However, in rare instances, the loss of limbs may be unavoidable.
