Abstract
The life and scientific career of Hugo Kufs, a pioneer in the field of neuropathology, are traced. Sixty years ago he described the first adult case of amaurotic idiocy, Kufs' disease (adult neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis), and recognized that the condition represented a disturbance in lipid metabolism.
