The aim of our pilot study is to analyze the relationship between dental caries and albumin and calcium levels in serum and saliva in adolescent patients with varying caries experience as determined by their caries progression between the age-group of 9 and 19 years.
A total of 20 subjects were selected based on their level of caries progression and divided into four groups of subjects, five in each as follows: group I-enamel caries, group II-dentinal caries, group III-pulpal caries, and group IV-control group. The saliva and serum were collected under standardized conditions from selected patients and analyzed for the presence of albumin and calcium, and then they were correlated to the same level in serum. The statistical analysis was done using the Chi-squared test.
According to the present study, there is an increase in the levels of caries with a decrease in the levels of salivary albumin and calcium. Serum albumin and calcium levels were also found to be decreased in caries-prone individuals; hence, a significant correlation between serum and salivary albumin and calcium levels was found.
According to a review of the literature, we found an inverse relationship between the levels of albumin and calcium in serum and saliva with dental caries patients. So, it confirms the importance of albumin and calcium levels in inhibiting carrier progression. So it may be used as a biochemical indicator to evaluate the susceptibility of caries.

根据龋齿进展水平共选取20名受试者,分为四组,每组5人,如下:第一组——釉质龋,第二组——牙本质龋,第三组——牙髓龋,第四组——对照组。在标准化条件下从选定患者中采集唾液和血清,分析其中白蛋白和钙的含量,然后将其与血清中的相同水平进行关联分析。采用卡方检验进行统计分析。
根据本研究,随着唾液白蛋白和钙水平的降低,龋齿水平有所升高。在易患龋齿个体中还发现血清白蛋白和钙水平降低;因此,发现血清与唾液中白蛋白和钙水平之间存在显著相关性。
根据文献综述,我们发现龋齿患者血清和唾液中白蛋白和钙水平呈负相关。所以,这证实了白蛋白和钙水平在抑制龋齿进展中的重要性。因此,它可作为评估龋齿易感性的生化指标。
