Abstract

Wheat stripe rust (yellow rust), caused by f. sp. (), is an important airborne disease worldwide. inoculum strength in southern Henan in winter or early spring is important for spring epidemics in the main autumn-sown wheat-growing regions of China. However, there is limited knowledge about the source and time of initial infection on winter wheat in southern Henan. The first occurrence of wheat stripe rust in southern Henan was recorded annually from 2011 to 2022, from which we used the backward trajectory approach to infer the likely source of inoculum responsible for the initial disease occurrence. The results suggested that the inoculum responsible for initial rust established in the winter in southern Henan originated from the Gansu oversummering area in China, whereas it originated from the adjacent winter sporulation regions in southern Shaanxi and northwestern Hubei if symptoms were first observed in early spring in southern Henan. Another possible source is southern Hubei where can also sporulate in the winter. Thus, early development in winter in the main wheat production region in China (Henan) is likely to be caused by inoculum spread from the oversummering inocula or epidemics in autumn seedlings in Gansu.

小麦条锈病(黄锈病)由条形柄锈菌小麦专化型(Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici)引起,是一种在全球范围内重要的气传病害。河南南部冬季或早春的接种体强度对中国主要秋播小麦种植区的春季流行至关重要。然而,关于河南南部冬小麦初始感染的来源和时间的了解有限。记录了2011年至2022年河南南部每年首次出现小麦条锈病的情况,我们利用后向轨迹方法推断导致该病首次发生的接种体可能来源。结果表明,河南南部冬季引发初始锈病的接种体源自中国甘肃越夏区,而如果河南南部早春首次观察到症状,则接种体源自陕西南部和湖北西北部相邻的冬季产孢区。另一个可能来源是湖北南部,那里的病菌在冬季也能产孢。因此,中国主要小麦产区(河南)冬季的早期发病可能是由越夏接种体传播的接种体或甘肃秋苗上的病害流行引起的。
