Acute ureteral obstruction increased cyclooxygenase, thromboxane and prostacyclin synthases and NAD+-linked 15-hydroxyprostaglandin dehydrogenase activities in rat kidney. Significant increase in prostaglandin biosynthetic and catabolic activities may mediate some pathological consequences found in obstructive nephropathy.
