Solifugae, commonly known as camel spiders, sun spiders or wind scorpions, is a relatively understudied order of predominantly nocturnal, cursorial and predatory arachnids, characterised by their formidable two-segmented chelicerae, voracious appetite and impressive speed. It is one of the meso-diverse arachnid orders, comprising 15 families, 144 genera, over 1200 described species and five monotypic fossil genera. Walter, 1889 is a small genus within the solifugid family Karschiidae, which, until now, had contained 32 species distributed in North Africa, Middle East and Central Asia, with 12 of these described from western regions of China.
Two new species of the genus Walter, 1889 are described from Xizang, China: Karschia (Karschia) shannan and Karschia (Karschia) trisetalis Detailed morphological descriptions, photographs of the bodies and a distribution map of these two new species are provided.
