Chronic appendicitis in pediatric patients is rare and challenging to diagnose, typically leading to surgical resection. However, Endoscopic Retrograde Appendicitis Therapy (ERAT) offers a minimally invasive alternative that preserves the appendix, maintaining its immune and digestive functions.
A 13-year-old boy with a year-long history of worsening abdominal pain underwent ERAT. The procedure provided symptom relief and preserved the appendix.
ERAT successfully treated the appendicitis while preserving the appendix, which plays crucial immune and digestive roles, especially in children.
ERAT is a promising, non-surgical alternative for chronic appendicitis in pediatric patients, warranting further study.
