Among the physicochemical methods used to measure ion hydration in water solution, the most informative are those employed to evaluate the energetic state of the water molecule (swelling heat, gelatination, UV-spectrophotometry). These data may yield information about the water structure to be used in estimating the quality of potable water of different origin. IR-spectrophotometry and x-ray diffraction analysis are of lower informativity. A certain correlation has been found between the structure and biological action of water.
