This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) on the pain intensity, impact of the disease, and health-related quality of life among women diagnosed with Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS).
The study was designed as a single-center, double-blind, randomized, and sham-controlled trial. Twenty women with FMS were included and randomized into intervention ( = 11) and sham control ( = 9) groups. In the intervention group, MLD was applied in addition to medical treatment, whereas the sham control group received sham MLD along with medical care over a period of 3 weeks. The Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ-R), and 12-item Short Form Survey (SF-12) were used to measure outcomes. Participants were assessed baseline, immediately after the treatment, at 12 weeks, and at 24 weeks.
The VAS score, the FIQ-R symptom and FIQ-R overall scores, and SF-12 score showed a statistically significant time effect ( < 0.05) in intervention group. No significant main effects in any parameters for any time interval were observed in the sham group ( > 0.05).
MLD added to medical treatment may be an effective alternative method that could be used in the treatment of FMS to reduce pain intensity and improve impact of disease.
本研究旨在调查手法淋巴引流(MLD)对诊断为纤维肌痛综合征(FMS)的女性的疼痛强度、疾病影响及健康相关生活质量的有效性。
该研究设计为单中心、双盲、随机、假对照试验。纳入20名FMS女性患者,并随机分为干预组(n = 11)和假对照组(n = 9)。干预组在药物治疗基础上加用MLD,而假对照组在3周的时间内接受假MLD及医疗护理。采用视觉模拟量表(VAS)、纤维肌痛影响问卷(FIQ-R)和12项简短形式调查(SF-12)来测量结果。在基线、治疗后即刻、12周和24周对参与者进行评估。
干预组的VAS评分、FIQ-R症状和FIQ-R总分以及SF-12评分显示出具有统计学意义的时间效应(P < 0.05)。假对照组在任何时间间隔的任何参数上均未观察到显著的主效应(P > 0.05)。
药物治疗基础上加用MLD可能是一种有效的替代方法,可用于治疗FMS以减轻疼痛强度并改善疾病影响。
