Poor operative technique, resulting in sepsis and extrusion, is threatening the reputation of the Small-Carrion penile prosthesis in some areas. A series of 50 consecutive cases in which no sepsis or spontaneous extrusion occurred is reviewed. It is concluded that strict adherence to the principles of prosthetic surgery makes the Small-Carrion prosthesis safe and reliable.
