OBJECTIVE: To examine the effect of electro-acupuncture (EA) application on postoperative pain levels and the amount of analgesic use in patients who underwent periodontal flap surgery. METHODS: In this prospective, randomized and controlled study, patients planned for periodontal surgery were divided into two groups [EA group ( 22): patients who received electroacupuncture and control group ( 22): patients who did not receive electroacupuncture]. Electroacupuncture was applied bilaterally to the Hegu (LI4), Daying (ST5), and Jiache (ST5) points of the patients in the EA group immediately before and after the flap surgery for 30 min at a frequency of 50 Hz to each point at a current that the patient could tolerate. The patients in the control group underwent flap surgery without applying electroacupuncture. Patients were asked to record their pain levels on the visual analog scale and the number of analgesic tablets they took during the 7 postoperative days on the given form. RESULTS: The total mean score of pain felt in the EA group (16.60 ± 2.78) was found to be significantly lower than that in the control group (31.37 ± 2.78) ( 0.001). No significant difference was found between the groups regarding the amount of analgesics taken (4.77 ± 4.72, 5.82 ± 3.11) ( 0.111). CONCLUSIONS: Our study shows that electro-acupuncture application is beneficial in reducing pain after periodontal flap surgery. Overall, more research is needed to fully understand the effects of electro-acupuncture on postoperative pain.
目的:探讨电针应用对接受牙周翻瓣手术患者术后疼痛程度及镇痛药使用量的影响。 方法:在这项前瞻性、随机对照研究中,计划接受牙周手术的患者被分为两组[电针组(22例):接受电针治疗的患者;对照组(22例):未接受电针治疗的患者]。在翻瓣手术前后,立即对电针组患者的合谷(LI4)、大迎(ST5)和颊车(ST5)穴位进行双侧电针治疗,频率为50Hz,每个穴位的电流强度以患者能耐受为准,每次治疗30分钟。对照组患者在未进行电针治疗的情况下接受翻瓣手术。要求患者在给定表格上记录术后7天内其视觉模拟量表上的疼痛程度以及服用的镇痛药片数量。 结果:发现电针组的总平均疼痛评分(16.60±2.78)显著低于对照组(31.37±2.78)(P<0.001)。两组之间服用的镇痛药数量无显著差异(4.77±4.72,5.82±3.11)(P=0.111)。 结论:我们的研究表明电针应用有助于减轻牙周翻瓣手术后的疼痛。总体而言,需要更多研究来全面了解电针对术后疼痛的影响。
