Because of the difficulties in reconstructing chronic, unrecognized tendon injuries, early diagnosis and proper management are of the utmost importance. The initial examining physician is key to the treatment pathway the patient will take. A high index of suspicion for possible injuries to deep structures beneath the laceration followed by appropriate examination of each of the involved parts will usually result in an accurate diagnosis.
