Injuries to the hand are very common in children. Because of children's tremendous capability of repair, fingertip injuries can usually be treated with dressings, and complicated closures with flaps or grafts can be avoided. Fractures are common, and the treating physician must be aware of the various ephiphyseal injuries that can occur in the hand. Because children are so active, if the hand must be immobilized, a long arm cast or valpeau dressing will usually be required.
