Amaurosis, or cortical blindness, is a rare complication of preeclampsia. Recent technologic advances have permitted a more accurate assessment of the affected cortical regions using computerized tomography (CT). A better understanding of the hemodynamic events in this illness has been afforded by central monitoring techniques, such as Swan-Ganz flow-directed arterial catheters. A patient with severe preeclampsia and amaurosis documented by CT scan was followed with invasive hemodynamic monitoring.
