Two heteroleptic octahedral Dy(III) -aryloxide complexes, [Dy(OPh*)(THF)X] {HOPh* = 2,6-bis(diphenyl-methyl)-4--butylphenol; X = Cl (1), Br (2)}, have been characterised by multi-frequency electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy to determine = 18.9(1) for 1 and 18.3(6) for 2. These are rare examples of Dy(III) single-molecule magnets that have observable EPR spectra.
