Abstract

OBJECTIVES

To assess the effectiveness of two enhancement filters for magnetic resonance images of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) in patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA).

MATERIAL

Magnetic resonance image (MRI) of 44 patients with JIA (15 males and 29 females) was analysed using OnDemand 3D software. Two experienced evaluators who were previously calibrated and blinded to the images assessed them subjectively regarding the use of Sharpen 1 and Sharpen 2 filters. The quality of the images after using the two different enhancement filters was compared to each other as well as to images without filter.

RESULTS

There was no statistically significant difference between Sharpen 1 and Sharpen 2 filters. Both filters provided significantly better images compared to images without filter (P = 0.000), resulting in a greater constancy of images with excellent diagnostic conditions. As for the evaluation of the articular eminences, Sharpen 2 filter provided images with better sharpness, despite the lack of a statistically significant difference.

CONCLUSION

The use of enhancement filters in MRI of patients with JIA was shown to be a valuable means to improve the diagnostic quality. Both Sharpen 1 and Sharpen 2 filters significantly enhanced the visualisation of mandibular condyles and articular eminences, thus potentially facilitating the detection and follow-up of JIA-related changes in these structures.

目的

评估两种增强滤波器对幼年特发性关节炎(JIA)患者颞下颌关节(TMJ)磁共振成像的效果。

材料

使用OnDemand 3D软件分析44例JIA患者(15例男性和29例女性)的磁共振图像(MRI)。两名经验丰富且事先经过校准并对图像不知情的评估人员对使用锐化1和锐化2滤波器的图像进行主观评估。将使用两种不同增强滤波器后的图像质量相互比较,并与未使用滤波器的图像进行比较。

结果
