Abstract

PURPOSE OF REVIEW

To provide an overview of the interaction between endothelial inflammatory response and pulmonary hypertension (PH), and how the associated inflammatory response can be regulated to improve the life quality of patients with PH. A systematic review was performed to focus on the recent research about the subject.

RECENT FINDINGS

Accumulated evidence suggests that the inflammatory response of endothelial cells (ECs) plays an important role in the occurrence and progression of various types of PH. The inflammatory response of ECs leads to ECs hyper-proliferation, anti-apoptosis, endothelial barrier function damage and vasoconstriction through activating multiple pathways and secreting the mediators, and finally accelerating pulmonary vascular remodeling and the progression of PH.

SUMMARY

The inflammatory response mediated by ECs plays a significant role in the development of PH. A better exploration of the role of endothelial inflammatory response in PH will be conducive to effectively prevent and treat PH.
