This study aimed to assess the morphological dimensions of primary molars in a sample of Iranian 4-9-year-old children for evaluating their compatibility with the size of Kids stainless steel crowns (SSCs).
This descriptive-analytical cross-sectional research assessed 128 maxillary and mandibular primary molars of boys and girls presenting to the Pediatric Dentistry Department of Isfahan University of Medical Sciences in 2020. Impressions were made with silicone impression material, and the mesiodistal (MD) and buccolingual (BL) dimensions of upper and lower primary molars and the Kids SSCs were determined using a digital caliper accurate to 0.01 mm.
The differences were insignificant between the upper first molars and SSCs in MD and BL widths ( > 0.05). The MD ( = 0.027) and BL ( < 0.001) dimensions of the Kids SSCs were significantly larger than the corresponding values in upper second molars. The difference in MD width was not significant between the lower first molars and SSCs ( > 0.05); however, the BL width of the SSCs fell significantly below that of lower first molars ( < 0.001).
The MD and BL dimensions of the Kids SSCs perfectly matched those of upper primary first molars. High compatibility was also noted between the MD width of SSCs and lower first molars and the BL width of SSCs and mandibular second molars. However, the MD and BL dimensions of SSCs were significantly larger than upper second molars.
The findings indicate that Kids SSCs showed significant dimensional adaptation with the primary teeth in Iranian children and can be used as an alternative for 3M crowns. The best adaptation of Kids SSCs was seen in the upper primary first molars, and the least adaptation was seen in the upper primary second molars. 本研究旨在评估伊朗4至9岁儿童样本中乳磨牙的形态尺寸,以评估其与儿童不锈钢冠(SSCs)尺寸的适配性。
本描述性分析横断面研究评估了2020年就诊于伊斯法罕医科大学儿童牙科的男孩和女孩的128颗上颌和下颌乳磨牙。使用硅橡胶印模材料制取印模,并用精确到0.01毫米的数字卡尺测定上下乳磨牙以及儿童SSCs的近远中(MD)和颊舌(BL)尺寸。
上颌第一乳磨牙与SSCs在MD和BL宽度上的差异不显著(P>0.05)。儿童SSCs的MD(P = 0.027)和BL(P<0.001)尺寸显著大于上颌第二乳磨牙的相应值。下颌第一乳磨牙与SSCs的MD宽度差异不显著(P>0.05);然而,SSCs的BL宽度显著低于下颌第一乳磨牙(P<0.001)。
儿童SSCs的MD和BL尺寸与上颌第一乳磨牙完美匹配。SSCs的MD宽度与下颌第一乳磨牙以及SSCs的BL宽度与下颌第二乳磨牙之间也具有高度适配性。然而,SSCs的MD和BL尺寸显著大于上颌第二乳磨牙。
