This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of gadolinium-doped hydroxyapatite nanoparticles (Gd-HA Nps) as coating for orthodontic miniscrews. Gd-HA Nps were synthesized by sol-gel method and coated on titanium miniscrews utilizing dip coating. The coated screws were analyzed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), confirming the effective application of the coating and the presence of 1.36 % Gd by weight. The antimicrobial effectiveness was evaluated using agar diffusion assays against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) (p=0.029), Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) (p=0.03), and Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis) (p=0.028). Gd-HA coated screws exhibited significantly larger zones of inhibition in comparison to pure HA-coated screws. The study indicates that Gd-HA coatings improve antibacterial capabilities, presenting a viable approach to mitigate peri-implant infections and failures.
