A F NMR spectroscopic probe, -fluorobenzonitrile, is used to evaluate the relative Lewis acidity of boranes. The resulting scale is compared with the Gutmann-Beckett method which uses triethylphosphine oxide as a P NMR probe and both are compared to computed fluoride affinities.
