The term "adaptation" is considered as a process of biological and social adjustment of a schizophrenic to the conditions of his life and activity altered as a result of his disease. During follow up study of 266 patients with paroxysmal schizophrenia, the authors made attempts to give a clinical assessment of adaptation. Levels of clinical adaptation and criteria of their identification are described. The authors show a possibility of using the specified levels for studying clinico-social correlations of adaptation and developing its typology.
