Describe the implementation, evaluation, and revision of a holistic admissions process in a prelicensure baccalaureate program.
Implementation, revision, and evaluation of the holistic admission process are described. Three research questions were used to evaluate holistic admissions data using a longitudinal approach.
Implementation of holistic admissions led to an increase in the number of underrepresented students admitted to the nursing program. No significant differences were noted between underrepresented and non-underrepresented students on admission metrics. Graduation rates and NCLEX pass rates were similar for underrepresented and non-underrepresented student groups.
Study findings support the effectiveness of a holistic admissions process in increasing diversity within the nursing program while maintaining academic and professional success.
