Hirsutism developed in a 23-year-old woman during pregnancy. Her peripheral and ovarian vein testosterone and androstenedione levels were elevated. The elevated androgens returned to normal postpartum. Although the clinical presentation of this patient was similar in many respects to reported functional causes of pregnancy hirsutism, such as pregnancy luteoma and theca lutein cysts, it is unique because of the absence of ovarian enlargement, which is characteristically observed in the latter entities.
