The group of health conditions MetS includes obesity, high blood pressure, poor blood fat control, and insulin resistance, making people more likely to develop heart diseases and type 2 diabetes. Younger research shows that dental bacteria cause more bodywide swelling, hurting MetS patients.
Study included 100 MetS patients together with 100 healthy individuals having chronic periodontitis symptoms. Research team members measured the level of periodontal tissue structure loss with PPD and CAL measurements. The researchers took subgingival plaque samples from patients to perform the polymerase chain reaction test for , , and detection. Samples of blood tested for inflammation provided numerical values determining CRP, IL-6, and TNF-α levels in the body. We performed independent -test and Pearson's correlation tests for our statistical analysis.
People with MetS had stronger periodontal inflammation than others because their gum depths measured 4.8 ± 1.2 mm, and gum damage reached 5.2 ± 1.5 mm when compared to the control group (PPD: 3.2 ± 0.9 mm, CAL: 3.5 ± 1.1 mm; < 0.05). MetS patients had more , , and bacteria in their mouths than the control group at < 0.05. MetS patients revealed higher CRP amounts in their blood tests (4.2 ± 1.1 mg/L) than regular participants (2.1 ± 0.8 mg/L). Testing showed the connection between bacteria count and inflammation markers was strong.
Research shows that periodontal disease microbes directly relate to higher inflammatory values in people who have metabolic syndrome. The research shows periodontal infections play a role in raising inflammation throughout the body of MetS patients when managing their health condition needs attention.
