Abstract

PURPOSE

To evaluate the effects of coenzyme Q10+vitamin E on the pattern visual evoked potential (VEP), visual field, retinal ganglion cell layer and RNFLthickness in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG).

METHODS

Ninety-six eyes from forty-eight POAG patients were enrolled. Forty-eight eyes were chosen for the study group, and fellow forty-eight eyes were chosen for the control group. At baseline, 6th month, and 12th month, the VEP, visual field parameters, and optical coherence tomography (OCT) (i.e.RNFL) were recorded for the 48 POAG eyes that underwent treatment with coenzyme Q10+vitamin E (Coqun®) in addition timolol+dorzolamide in study group and for the 48 POAG eyes that were only treated with timolol+dorzolamide in control group.

RESULTS

After 12 months, ganglion cell layer of both groups were decreased when compared to baseline (p < 0.05). Although the decrease in the ganglion cell layer in the control group was greater. After 12 months, in control group patients VEP P100 implicit times were increased, whereas P100 amplitudes were decreased (P < 0.05) .In study group patients, VEP P100 implicit times were decreased, whereas P100 amplitudes were increased (P < 0.05) when compared to baseline. At the end of 12 months in the study group, there was no significant change in the 32 patients ( %67), and the current visual field was preserved. (p > 0.05).In the control group at the end of the12 month, 24 ( %50)patients had an increase in MD (p < 0.05). In both groups, the RNFL thickness at 12 months showed a significant decrease (p˂ 0.05) compared to baseline.

CONCLUSION

Currently, neuroprotective drug studies in glaucoma are increasing daily.These results suggest that Coqun® administration in POAG had a beneficial effect on the inner retinal layer with consequent enhancement of the visual cortical responses (VEP improvement),visual field (decreased MD) and protect RNFL thickness.

目的

评估辅酶Q10加维生素E对原发性开角型青光眼(POAG)患者图形视觉诱发电位(VEP)、视野、视网膜神经节细胞层及视网膜神经纤维层(RNFL)厚度的影响。

方法

纳入48例POAG患者的96只眼。48只眼入选研究组,另外48只眼入选对照组。在基线、第6个月和第12个月时,记录研究组中48只接受辅酶Q10加维生素E(Coqun®)联合噻吗洛尔加布林佐胺治疗的POAG眼以及对照组中48只仅接受噻吗洛尔加布林佐胺治疗的POAG眼的VEP、视野参数和光学相干断层扫描(OCT)(即RNFL)。

结果

12个月后,与基线相比,两组的神经节细胞层均减少(p < 0.05)。尽管对照组神经节细胞层的减少更为明显。12个月后,对照组患者的VEP P100潜伏期延长,而P100波幅降低(P < 0.05)。与基线相比,研究组患者的VEP P100潜伏期缩短,而P100波幅增加(P < 0.05)。在研究组12个月末,32例患者(67%)无明显变化,当前视野得以保留(p > 0.05)。在对照组12个月末,24例患者(50%)的平均缺损(MD)增加(p < 0.05)。两组在12个月时的RNFL厚度与基线相比均显著降低(p˂ 0.05)。

结论

目前,青光眼神经保护药物的研究日益增多。这些结果表明,POAG患者使用Coqun®对视网膜内层有有益作用,从而增强了视觉皮层反应(VEP改善)、视野(MD降低)并保护了RNFL厚度。
