Abstract

Tm-doped sesquioxides, Tm:YScO, and Tm:LuScO crystals, were successfully fabricated by using a laser floating zone method. For the first time, continuous-wave laser operation at 2.3 µm on the H → H Tm transition of the two crystals was reported. Pumped by a 793 nm fiber-coupled laser diode, the Tm:YScO and Tm:LuScO lasers generated the maximum continuous-wave laser output power of 665 mW and 872 mW at 2.3 µm with a slope efficiency of 9.5% and 16.1%, respectively.
