It was found in a study on numbers and size of aggregated lymph nodules (ALN) occurring in the small intestine of 2 groups of one-year-old hares from 2 different localities that: the macroscopically visible ALN were regularly present only in jejunum and ileum. In jejunum, the numbers of ALN ranged from 2 to 9 while in ileum from 1 to 3. The surface area of individual ALN ranged from 10 to 530 mm2 and more than one half of ALN had an surface area of 50 to 150 mm2. The total surface area of all ALN occurring in the small intestine showed considerable individual differences and ranged from 410 to 1,320 mm2. There were no correlations between the numbers and size of ALN on the one hand and the origin of hares (i.e. locality) and the length of their small intestine on the other.
