650 psychiatric patients seen for the first time in San Diego on a private basis received a research interview that allowed a study of demographic and clinical characteristics. They were compared with 100 psychiatric patients seen in similar circumstances in Wisconsin. The 2 populations were remarkably similar in several respects.
