[Septal mucosa grafting for persistent drainage of the sphenoid sinus (author's transl)].

In accordance to fundamental rhinologic rules following surgical intervention in the sphenoid sinus there should be established a persistent access from the nasal cavity by mucosal grafting. Suitable for this seem to be the septum's upper posterior areas. They are pedicled door-leaf-like dorso-laterally, folded into the sphenoid sinus on one or both sides and fixed by tamponade. This procedure is recommended especially to follow transseptal operations of the pituitary gland, biopsies from tumors of the sphenoid sinus and in special cases of isolated empyema of the sphenoid sinus.
