Lecithine-cholesterol liposomes containing amphotericin B ionoforic marker were used to study the interaction between liposomes and planar phospholipid membranes. The liposomes were shown to increase the permeability of the planar membrane, which may be explained in terms of membrane fusion. Bivalent cations (Mg2+ and particularly Ca2+), dicetylphosphate producing negatively charged groups on the membrane surface and the n-decane suspension in water promote the fusion, whereas the increase of the cholesterol content in the liposomes prevents it.
