X-ray tube failures and prevention: a preliminary report.

In a busy radiology department, the failure of a radiographic or fluoroscopic x-ray tube is costly in respect to the replacement of the tube and the amount of time that the radiographic or fluoroscopic suite is down. Several examples of tube failures are given, many methods of how tube failures can be prevented are discussed, and illustrative cases are shown.
