Dementia as an accelerated ageing of the nervous system: some psychological and methodological considerations.

Psychological evidence relevant to the hypothesis that dementia represents an accelerated ageing of the nervous system is reviewed. It is argued on methodological grounds that no definitive test of the hypothesis has yet been made. Such evidence as there is suggests that the hypothesis is inadequate as a complete explantation of dementia.
