The role of prefrontal lobes in psychonervous memory in vertebrates.

The memory phenomena are classified into image memory, emotional memory and conditioned reflex memory. It is assumed that prefrontal area is critically involved in the image memory, and in particular, in short-term image memory. On the other hand, both emotional and conditianed reflex memory do not depend on the prefrontal area but they are controlled by other parts of the neocortex and by paleocortex. The intimate nature of both short-term and long-term memory is discussed.
